Is 5 hour Energy Safe for You?

5 hour Energy is probably the most popular "energy shot" drinks in the US. It is sold in 2-oz containers and comes in a variety of flavors.

The maker of the liquid energy shot claim that it will give you hours of energy with no "sugar crash."

The product contains caffeine equivalent to a cup of coffee. It also contains a blend of B-vitamins, amino acids and nutrients. However, there are also caution information that you should be aware of. For instance, women who are pregnant, nursing, Children under 12 years of age, and people diagnosed with phenylketonuria (PKU) should not take the product.

There have been concerns about the high levels of vitamin B found in 5 hour Energy. Nevertheless, the maker states, the amounts of B vitamins are well within safe limits.

Some users of the energy shot have reported feelings of fatigue and drowsiness. Which is properly why the company now has a disclaimer "Individual results may vary."

The fact that 5-hour Energy has not been approved by the FDA has no relevance to it being safe or unsafe because federal law does not require dietary supplements to be proven safe to FDA's satisfaction.

It is recommended that you see a doctor before taking this product if you are currently taking any prescription medicines or been advised by your physician to avoid stimulants or caffeine.

The company has a "Fan Zone" page on their website, where they post letters written by consumers that love the product. Nevertheless, we found else where others who had tried the liquid energy shot with unfavorable results. One consumer complained of having a rush all over their body, join pains, and numb fingers and toes after taking one bottle.

Our Conclusion

As health advocates we are concerned about the potential danger of energy drinks. Nevertheless, we cannot say that they will harm you. If you do decide to use 5-Hour Energy, there are three things to consider:

1. 5-Hour Energy is not a substitute for a good night's sleep.

2. You should exercise moderation.

3. If you have an adverse effect discontinue use.
